Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin
Prof. Dr. Nawzia Yasmin is a founder member of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network (BTCRN) and currently, she is leading the BTCRN as its President.

Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin is currently the president of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network (BTCRN) for the second consecutive tenure. She is actively involved in policy-making and planning for the network.
Professor Dr. Nawzia Yasmin is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) since January 2022. Before that, she was also a Professor and Head of the Public Health Department, SUB for the last several years. In addition to her current responsibilities as Pro-Vice Chancellor, she is discharging the duty of Dean, of the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, SUB.
Professor Yasmin is a Dhaka Medical College graduate and completed her Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1993. Later she went to the University of Sydney, Australia in 2000 to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree.
She has been actively engaged in teaching as faculty in the Department of Public Health since 2003. Professor Yasmin teaches Public Health Nutrition, Reproductive Health, General Aspects of Public Health (case study), and Communication Skills. She is proficient in designing and implementing public health related research projects and programs to generate knowledge applicable to evidence-based health policy and programming, particularly for people in developing countries. Professor Yasmin has consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills and is known for her excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well. She has supervised more than 600 dissertation students as a graduate thesis supervisor at SUB. Dr. Yasmin has credit to 73 national and international publications. She has attended numerous national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. She has been the editor of the SUB Journal of Public Health (SUBJPH) since 2008.
She is also a member of the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) and the Public Health Association of Bangladesh. She is also a Life Member of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA). In recognition of her efforts in social and community services, she was elected as the honorary General Secretary of a charitable organization namely Begum Rokeya Nari-O-Shishu Shasthya Unnayan Shanstha (BERNOSSUS) in Uttara.

Dr. Shahida Haque is the Advisor for Research and Evaluation at Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) and currently leads BCCP’s full-fledged research team comprising public health specialists, program research managers, statisticians, anthropologist, sociologist, monitoring and evaluation experts, enumerators, and associates. She has more than 30 years of experience in health-related service delivery programs, health and social communication projects and research activities. Dr. Shahida has developed national and project-specific social, and behavior change communication and marketing strategies for health and other social sectors including maternal and child health and nutrition, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, child labor, domestic violence against women, prevention of trafficking of women and children, refugee rehabilitation, and national road safety program. Dr. Shahida is a medical graduate from the University of Dhaka with specialized training abroad on SBCC communication, leadership, and research.

Mr. Mohammad Shamimul Islam has more than 20 years of experience working in different development organizations in the field of research, capacity building, program development and management, leadership development, coordination, liaison, and networking. He has expertise in implementing national as well as community-level programs related to Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC).
He has more than 9 years of experience in the field of tobacco control. As a Team Leader of the JHSPH-BCCP Tobacco Control Program, he has been managing the Tobacco Control Research Grant Program since 2013. He also provides mentorship to the research grantees for dealing with critical research management issues. Under his leadership, 114 research studies on tobacco control have been completed as of 2022.

Ms. Farzana Rahman is currently working as a Technical Coordinator of Fleming Fund Country Grant to Bangladesh (FFCGB), funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care, managed by Mott MacDonald, and implemented by DAI. Before this, she worked as a Research Manager at Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP) with the Tobacco Control Research Grant Program, which has been implemented in collaboration with the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA. In this grant program, she provided mentorship to the Tobacco Control research grantees’ studies and facilitated sessions in the different capacity building trainings, including Research Methodology Workshop under the JHSPH-BCCP Tobacco Control Project. She was also a senior lecturer in the department of Epidemiology, at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS), Dhaka.
She has received her M.Sc. & M. Phil in Nutrition & Food Sciences from the Institute of Nutrition and Food Sciences (INFS), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and MPH (major in Epidemiology) from American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB). She obtained a Research fellowship award on innovations in Public Health Education, funded by the USAID’s Next Generation of Public Health Experts (NGPHEP) at James P. Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University in 2014, and a short-term scholarship for Certificate program on Global Tobacco Control, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA, Session 2015-2016.

Mr. Mahfuzur Rahman Bhuiyan is one of the founding members of the Bangladesh Tobacco Control Research Network and was selected as one of the Executive Members for two tenures. Currently, he is the Treasurer of BTCRN.
Mr. Bhuiyan has been working in the development sector for around fifteen years and contributing his knowledge and expertise to the betterment of the health areas. He completed his MBBS degree in 1996 from the Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Afterward, he obtained MPH from The University of Melbourne, Australia in 2006. Currently, Mr. Bhuiyan is the Deputy Program Director, Bangladesh Hypertension Control Initiative, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh. Program Director, Road Safety Advocacy and Injury Prevention Program, National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh. Before that, he worked in Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, USA, the World Health Organization, and the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM). He also obtained certified courses on Global Tobacco Control in 2013 at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA. He is the author of around 20 journal publications.
His contribution to the network is immense and adds value to promoting tobacco control research as well as building research capacity, especially, among the young researchers in Bangladesh.
